Nanaimo team joins Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League
Cowichan's Kerry Park Islanders have some new competition raring to go for next season.
The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that the Nanaimo Buccaneers will join the eight other teams in the league.
Previous co-owner of the Kerry Park Islanders and New Co-owner of the Buccaneers, Phil Levesque told SunFM News he could not be more excited
“Wow, it was a long time coming but it sure felt good doing it once we did it. Nanaimo is going to be a great Junior B town, we are just really excited.”
In the coming months they need to find and pick a new team. Levesque said they will have a prospects camp with about 80 hopefuls in June, and then a full training camp before the season starts in August.
Levesque hopes that the majority of the players are Nanaimo kids, so that they get to stay home and still play the sport they love.
