A witness to a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway at Miller Rd. in Duncan nearly two weeks ago could be the key to the missing puzzle.

The Saanich Police Dept. is investigating the June 3 crash involving an RCMP member, who was travelling south on his way to answer a domestic call.

Cpl. Dean Jantzen said the police have determined that someone driving a black SUV was at the scene that night when the crash occurred.

“They were right in the intersection and they would have been direct witness to the actual accident itself, and for some reason they haven’t spoken to police yet, so we’re trying to track that person down.”

Jantzen said the police have spoken to several other witnesses and have plenty of testimony on the events before and after the accident, but they are asking the SUV driver to come forward.

He said they’re also waiting for forensic data from the police vehicle’s black box.

“I know there’s some conjecture out there about where this young man was going to and how fast he was going, and we’re staying away from all that stuff. We’re going to wait for the forensic data.”

The driver of the car and the RCMP member suffered minor injuries in the accident and the vehicles were nearly totaled.
