NewsCowichan murders carry over to 2012
The New Year is just about here and many people will take this time to look back and reflect on the year gone by. For many, it will be about leaving the past behind, but others will be searching for some kind of closure to events that have left a lasting impact. The RCMP are no exception and continue to work at solving certain cases that carry over from year to year. Staff Sgt. Jack MacNeill pointed to the murders of two women, one earlier this year and one last summer, which the RCMP are still investigating. “The two homicides which are currently unsolved, the Tyeshia Jones murder from January of 2011 and preceding that one was Karry Ann Stone homicide. Both files are actively and aggressively being investigated.” Jones was 18 years old when she was found dead in a wooded area in Duncan on Jan. 28, and 42-year-old Karrie Ann Stone's burnt remains were found in Glenora in 2010. Police told SunFM News in October the two murders are not related. That news came as a surprise to many in the community, as it did for a friend of the Jones' family, Joe Thorne. “Sometimes I have to feel that they could be related—the location. But I don’t want to jeopardize any of their investigation… I don’t want to confuse people,” he said. “So I’m going to stand by what the RCMP are saying. They know what they’re doing and they know what they know.” Thorne admits the community has been rife with speculation about the murders and believes there are still people who know something and remain silent. “You hear rumours galore but I can’t speak on those rumours other than I know that somebody knows something. I definitely know that, I believe that,” he insisted. “It’s just a matter of getting them to say ‘ok, it’s time to open my mouth’.” Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
