NewsRe-vote called for Crofton mill union
The details are still slim but it seems the union at the Crofton Pulp and Paper Mill may have to vote again on a new tentative agreement with the company. Last week, CEP local 1132 at the mill voted against a tentative deal with employer Catalyst Paper. The first vice president of the local, Kevin Figee, said that because the vote was so close, members will have to vote again. Another union member who wanted to remain anonymous told SunFM News that the local will cast ballots again but not because it was a close vote, because there was some sort of issue with the process. Calls to the company, union headquarters and other union representatives have not been returned, so it's not clear when members of the CEP local will vote on the proposed deal. Wage cuts and other reductions are reported to be part of the deal, as the company has been restructuring amid debt problems. The Port Alberni and Campbell River locals reportedly voted in favour of the proposed contract with Catalyst Paper. Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
