It will be up to the Saanich Police Department to investigate an accident June 3 involving a local RCMP member and a 23-year-old Duncan resident.

The RCMP member was heading south on the Trans-Canada Highway at around 7 p.m. when he collided with a vehicle turning left onto Miller Rd.

Both sustained minor injuries, the vehicles are heavy damaged and southbound traffic was down to one lane for several hours.

The RCMP said the member has two and a half years' experience with the force in general duty at the Duncan/North Cowichan detachment.

They also said they will not release further details on the case, as the Saanich Police Department is now responsible for the independent review.
