The RCMP are searching for a suspect in relation to a drug bust in Shawnigan Lake Tuesday morning, during which the police seized chemicals they suspect were there to make methamphetamines.

Sgt. Rob Webb said police also seized drugs they believe to be mushrooms, ecstasy, and marihuana as well as about $1,000 in cash.

Nobody was at home at the time. Sgt. Rob Webb said the suspect is currently at large and was not familiar to police.

“He was certainly not known to us in the Shawnigan Lake area. He’s only been here approximately three to four months and was renting a house at the property,” he said. That property is in the 1600 block of Shawnigan Lake Rd.

“We’re actively seeking to locate his whereabouts.”

Sgt. Webb said the suspect is in his 30s and the police may have a further description at a later time.

He said the outbuilding that housed the majority of the chemicals has been sealed off and that the investigation continues into what the RCMP are calling the "Clandestine Lab."
