1,000 expected for geocaching in Cowichan
Geocaching is catching on in many parts of the world and this weekend, the Cowichan Valley will be the place to be for that activity.
The Island Spirit 2012 is hosting a mega geocaching event, which is expected to attract around 1,000 people from the northwestern U.S., Canada, Netherlands, Germany and the U.K.
Chris Edley is the part-organizer of the high-tech treasure hunt at the Cowichan Exhibition grounds.
“People can download coordinates from a website, they put them on their GPS and they go find a container that’s usually in a park,” he explained. “it’s kind of just a bit of a treasure hunt, open to families, people who want to take their dog for a walk.”
He said participants can still join the geocaching at the exhibition grounds July 7.
