Search on for escaped Nanaimo prisoner

The search for 34-year-old Howard O'Soup, a prisoner at the Nanaimo Regional Correctional Centre (NRCC), continues after he walked away from escorted visitation on Mar. 29.

O'Soup had been escorted to a meeting in central Nanaimo at 7 p.m. along with several other inmates.  Shortly after the meeting began, the correctional officer could not locate him, although all other inmates were accounted for.

O'Soup has an extensive criminal record going back 20 years, primarily for property related offences. He had been sentenced to 547 days for three counts of break and enter and one count of mischief and was considered low risk at the time of his escape. He was supposed to be released this fall.

O'Soup is described as a First Nations man, approximately 6 ft , 200 lbs with  brown hair and  brown eyes. He has a sleeve tattoo on his left arm and a rose tattoo on his right shoulder.
