It's National Aboriginal Day and in Cowichan a few events are being held to celebrate First Nations' culture and heritage.

At the Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre, the Tzinqaw Dancers kicked off the day with a performance, followed by a film screening and a cultural tour.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority is holding some cultural and culinary events in front of the district hospital for staff and patients to acknowledge VIHA's aboriginal workforce.

The Governor General of Canada, in 1996, proclaimed June 21 National Aboriginal Day, a chance for First Nations to share their diverse cultures with family and other Canadians.
