A Chemainus home got some unwanted attention this week after several neighbours came out, calling it an "unsightly property."

Complaining neighbour Jeff Knadle said the house is an eyesore and hurting his property value.

“From the backyard you can really see the mess of structures upon structures, instead of replacing his roof he just puts another tarp on it, and when that one gets shredded and ripped apart well he just puts another one on, it’s just really frustrating.”

Homeowner, Doug Marsh, said it is only this one neighbour complaining and he believes he's out to get him.

“He has phoned me up a number of times and hollered, like out of control obscenities, vitriol, anger and horrible abuse. I basically tried to keep quiet and do everything I could to keep him from getting upset with me.”

Marsh said he likes the way his house looks and he is being punished for being artistic and different.

“It doesn’t look like your typical boring vinyl siding, with the clean trim lawn that some people might expect as normal. It is hard to say what they might be referring too; I like the look of it.”

North Cowichan council has agreed with the Knadle and the other neighbours concerns and has ordered Marsh to clean up his property on Pine Street, or face fees for the city workers to clean it up for him.
