The sun is shining and temperatures are going up, signally camping and RV season in the Cowichan Valley.

A manager at a local RV dealership, Kevin Digness told SunFM News drivers need to remember how different driving an RV is from their car, because of length and weight.

“If you are in a motorhome be conscious of the size of the motorhome, it is going to take longer to stop, won’t have the same breaking of a small vehicle obviously as they can run upwards of 27,000- 28,000 pounds in some cases.”

He said before heading out for the weekend, RV owners need to test connections, braking, and tuning, especially after it's been sitting around all winter.

Digness also wants to remind other drivers on the road that RVs need the same treatment as large trucks, as drivers have limited vision and many blind spots, so traveling close behind or beside them is not a good idea.
