The BC Coroners Service has identified the body found in the Cowichan River last week, as that of a missing Calgary Man.

58-year-old William Shearer was visiting his family in Lake Cowichan in mid-April when he apparently slipped into the river.

A three-day search turned up no leads. Over one month later, a fisherman spotted the body south of Spring Pool just last Thursday.

The police suspected the body was Shearer but the Coroner did not confirm his identity until Monday afternoon.

His families in Lake Cowichan and Calgary have been notified.
