NewsDowntown Duncan gets racey this summer
The city is hosting a first—the Supermoto Motorcycle event. A local racer and event organizer, Don Hatton said the event is a little different from a normal race. “Supermoto is a relatively new form of motorcycle racing, so you don’t hit the high speeds that you do on normal road racing. Basically what it is, is dirt bikes that have been converted to street use, so you race them on the street.” The city is also bringing a special guest in this summer, stunt rider Insane Kane Friesen. Hatton thinks both events will help draw people to the Cowichan Valley. “That is really the whole goal, to take this opportunity to showcase the valley, and Duncan in particular because it is our centennial weekend.” Hatton said he wanted to organize this event to help the Cowichan Valley get on the map. We are so lucky to live here. I have the opportunity to tour all over the world with my racing, and we live on the greatest place on earth. So if I can showcase this and get people spending money here, then we can all afford to live here.” The motorcycle festivities start on Saturday July 14 with a ride along and continue Sunday with the race and demonstrations in downtown Duncan. It is free for all spectators. Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
