Shawnigan Lake RCMP have confirmed the accident on the Malahat Wednesday afternoon involved a single vehicle.

At about 3:30 p.m., a southbound Toyota Camry veered off the highway and collided with the rock face near the Malahat summit lookout.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

RCMP Cpl. Jason Kerr said the man was issued a 24-hour driving suspension as a result of being under the influence of drugs. The 22-year-old from Victoria was also given a ticket for offences under the Motor Vehicle Act.

No other details were being made available, but the police said the investigation continues and criminal charges are possible.

Southbound traffic was down to one alternating lane but the accident was cleared up by 5 p.m.
