Food - Betty Dish The Fresh Feed
NewsWith summer, a drop in giving
It's hot and sunny and while you're planning your vacation or spending time at the beach, donating to the local food bank may not be the first thing on your mind. The Cowichan Valley Basket Society in Duncan is running short on supplies right now and the executive director, Colleen Fuller, explained that there are several reasons they run low at this time of year. “The kids are out of school now, and a lot of those children were benefits of the school programs but now they’re coming to the food bank for lunches and breakfast.” She acknowledged that people tend to be busy with summer holiday plans, but she wanted to send out a message that the food bank can always use some help. “It’s just a reminder to give regularly, because our need doesn’t go down.” As usual, the food bank accepts non-perishables like pasta and soups but she said because it only takes a couple of days to run out of items, they also accept fresh produce from gardens. The Cowichan Valley Basket Society is at 5810 Garden St. in Duncan. Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
