If you're a regular on the roads, you can expect to see more police cars on patrol this month, especially at intersections.

ICBC, the province and local police forces are targeting high-risk drivers during the month of May.

A road safety manager with the ICBC, Jill Blacklock, told SunFM News it's a good time to conduct the campaign.

“May is the right time of year, because it tends to be the time where more vehicles are on the road, more pedestrians are out and more motorcyclists as well.”

Blacklock said the police will focus on intersections, where 60 per cent of accidents occur, but she said they will be on the lookout for any careless driving.

“What you can expect to see is more police pulling over drivers for behaviours that are risking both the person in the vehicle and those around them. Failure to yield the right of way, or following too closely or improper passing, it is these behaviors that tend to increase the chance of getting into a crash."      

Blacklock cannot predict how many tickets will be handed out this month but they expect police will catch more drivers breaking the rules of the road.
