A two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway north of Ladysmith Monday morning sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP Cpl. Tim Desaulniers explained that the driver of a van was making a left turn from Oyster Sto'Lo Rd. to head south when the collision occurred with a car heading north on the highway.

“Serious injuries to the two females in the van,” he said, although police do not believe the injuries are life threatening. The RCMP also said they have an idea of what happened.

“It looks like the grey car northbound may have run a red light and failed to stop for the traffic that was making the left turn.”

Desaulniers said it was unclear whether the driver of the car faces charges, as the RCMP are still investigating.

The Trans-Canada was shut down Monday morning near Ladysmith while the accident was being cleared away.
