A Duncan man faces several charges after a crash on the Malahat Sunday afternoon near Mill Bay.

Shawnigan Lake RCMP said the 28-year-old driver is suspected of being drunk behind the wheel. He was first spotted driving erratically near Saanich and was heading northbound, seen weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed.

He then hit a car near Butterfield Rd. The car flipped and landed in a ditch. Two children and two adults were taken to hospital and are said to be in stable condition.

The police said the driver attempted to flee the scene before his truck failed and he was held at the scene by witnesses. He now faces charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Traffic was backed up for hours near Mill Bay and had to be re-routed around the accident.

The man faces charges for impaired driving, dangerous driving, and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.
