Mike Caljouw Jr. remembers dedicated father, politician

Former councillor Mike Caljouw was a proud father and committed family man, according to his son.

Caljouw passed away Monday evening from heart complications.

His eldest son, Mike Caljouw Jr. told SunFM News his dad was a man he, and the city, could depend on.

“He was always looking to help everybody else out, and anytime I ever needed anything I’ll I had to do was call my father and he was always there for everybody in the family.”

Caljouw Jr. said his father loved the Cowichan Valley and the people in it.

“He really touched the valley with his efforts. A lot of the things in the valley you see, he had his hand in, and I am proud to say I had him as a father.”

He also said that the support from the community has helped his family.

“We appreciate all the outpouring of sympathies we have received so far,  it is has been very comforting.”

Caljouw leaves behind his wife, three sons, one daughter, ten grandkids, and three great-grandkids.

A service for Caljouw will be held Monday May 7 at 2 p.m. at the Christian Reform Church on Trunk Road in Duncan, everyone is welcome.
