The Cowichan Valley Regional District and the district of North Cowichan want to host the BC Summer Games in either 2016 or 2018.

Before they can make a final decision and begin preparing their bid, they need to know if they have the public's support.

North Cowichan Councillor Jennifer Woike thinks the games would be great for the valley.

“Hosting can being a community together, these games capture a full cross section of a community. Also, the economic impact is very important, in those four days it is estimated that we will bring in $2.6 million in direct dollars to the host community.”

Cowichan Sportsplex Administrator Catherine Brandon told SunFM News they would love be one of the host venues for the BC Summer Games.

“The directors were quite excited about the idea, and obviously The Sportsplex would need to be a part of that and we were quite excited about the possibilities.”

Depending on the public feedback the CVRD will decide at their next meeting whether they want to go through with preparing a bid for the event.
