The Malahat was cutt off to traffic Sunday afternoon because of an accident near the Mill Bay exit.
Both northbound and southbound lanes were reported to be closed from around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Witnesses said a helicopter was landing in the vicinity and northbound traffic was being re-routed through the old Mill Bay Rd.
