It's been over a month since a fire gutted Dino's Grill on Government St. in Duncan and there’s still no official word on how the fire may have started.

At a meeting July 16, Duncan City Council was scheduled to hear from the city's building inspector, who’s also the asst. deputy fire commissioner, but Mayor Phil Kent said he wasn’t expecting to hear an update on the blaze at Dino's June 10.

“If the investigation going on, they have to go their full mile, they will likely not comment on it until their investigation is complete.”

The RCMP initially said they were treating the fire as possibly suspicious.

Dino's owner Dean Soler said he's been told officials have ruled out arson, but there's been no official word from either the RCMP or the fire investigators.

“It’s not something that needs to be rushed,” Kent said.

Soler believes it will likely take months before he and the building owners. sort out insurance matters and know whether they can start repairing the restaurant.
