NewsSchool staff affected by job action
Some districts around the province are calling for more aggressive progress between the B.C. Teachers’ Federation and the provincial government as negotiations proceed at a slow pace and for this week, are on hold. In the Cowichan Valley, boards may not be taking a hard line on the subject, but most would say that schools are feeling the effects. A communications director with School District 68 in Ladysmith, Donna Reimer, said they continue to adjust to the ongoing job action. “Parents see it most clearly with the fact that report cards are not being issued,” she pointed out, adding that the staff have adjusted as well. “We have made some changes in our district to the time of recess, because we need to send management staff out to supervise students before and after school.” Principals and other staff are also taking on extra duties. “Overall in the system, definitely a lot of management staff are feeling the effects of the teachers’ job action.” Parent-teacher meetings are also cancelled for this month. Similar to the situation in the fall, Reimer said teachers will still be available to speak with parents about their kids' progress. Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
