There are some practical things to keep in mind if you’re heading to a music festival for the day so you can enjoy the crooning instead of listening to yourself complaining.

The event manager of the Cowichan Valley’s annual Sunfest, Annie Andrews, recommends wearing practical footwear.

“(A) sixty-seven acre hayfield, if you’re coming in high heels, that’s probably not the best footwear to be wearing.”

She said concert goers are allowed to bring their own food onto the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds this weekend, but no liquids are permitted. People can bring in empty drink containers and refill them with water at stations set up around the concert venue, free of charge. There’s also a spacious beer garden on site.

Andrews said there’s extra help for people with disabilities. They have golf carts on site and volunteers are there to escort them onto the grounds.

With weekend highs of 30 degrees Celsius, it’s also a good idea to bring sunscreen and a hat.

Organizers are expecting between 12,000 and 15,000 people at Sunfest 2012.

The gates close every evening at 10 p.m. The show will still be going but you can't get in past that time.
