NewsBamberton on track for development
New industry, new parks, and economic growth could be in the works on the old Bamberton property in South Cowichan. The Cowichan Valley Regional District agreed Wednesday to have the land re-zoned, so it can be developed. Bamberton Property LLP’s Ross Tennant said his company has big plans for the site. “It would see the current industrial area, down at the waterfront at Bamberton expand to cover what was formerly the footprint at the old cement plant, and also an additional commercial and industrial space up near the highway interchange.” The redeveloped land will include a commercial/light industry business park, which will create different kinds of jobs, like tourism positions at a zip-line and eco-adventure park. Tennant said the next step is to come up with a refined plan for the site and present it to the CVRD for approval. “We will now be able to proceed with some of the commercial and industrial parts of the plan, and that is subject to a development permit process. So it is really coming up with a more refined plan and then taking that back to the CVRD for consideration.” Over the next 25 years, approximately 400,000 sq.ft. of commercial and light industrial space could be developed in Bamberton.
