The RCMP in Lake Cowichan are calling it a suspicious fire.

A home in the Meades Creek Trailer Park went up in flames Wednesday night.

Sgt. Dave Voller said they are investigating how it may have started.

“We’re still looking for a point of origin,” he explained. “Because of the extensive damage caused by the fire, it’s quite difficult to determine an exact location.”

Voller said no one was home in the trailer that caught fire, but the blaze spread to a neighbour's home. That person had tried to put it out with a garden hose but was unsuccessful.

The Lake Cowichan Volunteer Fire Dept. arrived and battled the blaze.

Voller said as part of the investigation, the RCMP they will be speaking to witnesses, including anyone living in the trailer park.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
