Thursday is National Aboriginal Day in Canada and the Vancouver Island Health Authority is hosting an array of activities to celebrate First Nations' heritage and culture. In Port Hardy, they will put on blanket making demonstrations and in Victoria, a smudging ceremony and traditional dance. And in Cowichan, VIHA will host a celebration at the district hospital, which will showcase traditional dancers, drumming and lunch. Aboriginal Day festivities at the hospital start at 10:30 a.m. on the front lawn, June 21. Cowichan Tribes haven’t responded to inquiries on what events they may have planned for Aboriginal Day.
