Organizers say it's the biggest event yet.

Nearly 450 participants from other provinces and the northwestern U.S., cycled through the Cowichan Valley on the weekend for the 12th annual MS Bike Tour to raise money for the South Vancouver Island chapter of the MS Society.

Event organizer Anne Muir said she can't think of anything to complain about.

“It was just spectacular. Everybody had such an amazing time, it was perfect weather," she said. "They loved the route, they really enjoyed all the wineries.”

The participants also injected quite a bit into the local economy on their two-day bike tour.

“The first day, I know for sure that the participants spent over $12,000 at the stops that they went to,” she said and estimated another $5,000 was likely spent on Sunday.

Muir said it was a successful fundraiser, with participants raising at least $440,000 at this year’s event.

Funds go to the MS Society and are used to support people living with Multiple Sclerosis, as well as for medical research.
