The city of Duncan is looking for centennial babies to help celebrate its 100th birthday and the first one born in 2012 is on track to join the club.

Jackson Jordan was Cowichan’s New Year's baby, the only one born at Cowichan District Hospital Jan. 1.

His father, Jason Jordan and his mother, Cary Ann Jackson, will likely introduce their son to the centennial celebrations by bringing him to his first Summer Festival Parade July 14. Jackson said she believes it's important to observe the city's legacy.

“Just looking back at Duncan’s history and how much it’s changed in the last 100 years.”

Jackson said she plans on having her son officially designated a Duncan Centennial baby. Part of that will include having a special certificate added to the city's time capsule to be opened 25 years from now. She noted that by 2037, she’d like to see Jackson doing great things.

“Hopefully in university or getting a good education.”

Any family living in the district with a V9L postal code may include their baby on the centennial list. People must visit City Hall to get the appropriate certification.
